For Intel Macs · no Homebrew

Every project gets its own https:// address.

Local PHP development for Intel Macs. Each folder runs at <name>.test with trusted HTTPS. No Homebrew, Docker or VM.

Homebrew left Intel Macs behind. Devid didn’t.

Homebrew moved Intel Macs to Tier 3: no more prebuilt packages, so Valet’s PHP and nginx build from source. Devid ships them prebuilt, without a package manager.

No Homebrew

PHP, nginx and Caddy come from Devid’s releases, sha256-checked.

No Docker, no VM

Native processes. Idle PHP versions use almost no memory.

Made for Intel Macs

macOS 12 or newer (tested on 14), x86_64. Apple silicon is planned, not built yet.

What you get

Automatic HTTPS

A local CA limited to .test. No extra step.

PHP 8.3, 8.4, 8.5

Side by side, pinned per site. Xdebug and pcov included.

Extensions, prebuilt

imagick, mongodb, swoole and more. Nothing to compile.

nginx, Caddy or Apache

nginx by default. Switch with one command.

Park or link

A whole folder of projects, or just one. Laravel’s public/ just works.

CLI, TUI, menu-bar app

Same actions everywhere. devid doctor finds problems and says how to fix them.

Requirements

Everything lives in ~/.devid. devid uninstall undoes setup.

System
macOS 12+ on an Intel Mac (tested on 14)
Setup
Admin password, once: .test DNS, Devid’s CA and ports 80/443
Ports
80 and 443 free (stop Valet first)
Not included
Databases (use e.g. DBngin)

Install in one command.

With the desktop app
❯ curl -fsSL https://github.com/hadziqmtqn/devid-binaries/releases/download/devid-latest/install.sh | sh -s -- --gui
CLI and TUI only
❯ curl -fsSL https://github.com/hadziqmtqn/devid-binaries/releases/download/devid-latest/install.sh | sh

A personal project, provided as is. Builds are ad-hoc signed and not notarized; the command installs them without a Gatekeeper prompt. Setup asks for your password once for .test DNS, Devid’s CA and ports 80/443, and devid uninstall undoes it.
